Introduction
This is a course of 6 sessions designed for school aged students who
have been recommended a keyboard handwriting alternative but have
limited keyboarding experience and exposure. The course is offered in
school vacation time.
Learning Outcomes
Following each session, students will be provided with follow-up
homework.
At the completion of the course, students will be:
- Aware of frequently used key positions, e.g. characters, home
and functions keys
- Independent in using shortcuts
- Typing at a faster rate than their pre-assessed typing speed.
Please note some students may be unable to become ten finger
typists; however, this workshop is aimed at increasing typing
speed.
- Provided with a summary of their progress and strategies for further improvement at home or school.
Course Prerequisites
- Participants are required to bring in their handwriting alternative
to each session, e.g. AlphaSmart 3000, Neo, Dana or computer
system.
- Basic awareness of keyboard layout.
Target Audience
School aged students using keyboarding as an alternative to handwriting.
