Keyboarding Skills for Students

Introduction
This is a course of 6 sessions designed for school aged students who have been recommended a keyboard handwriting alternative but have limited keyboarding experience and exposure. The course is offered in school vacation time.

Learning Outcomes
Following each session, students will be provided with follow-up homework.

At the completion of the course, students will be:

Aware of frequently used key positions, e.g. characters, home and functions keys
Independent in using shortcuts
Typing at a faster rate than their pre-assessed typing speed.
Please note some students may be unable to become ten finger typists; however, this workshop is aimed at increasing typing speed.
Provided with a summary of their progress and strategies for further improvement at home or school.

Course Prerequisites

Participants are required to bring in their handwriting alternative to each session, e.g. AlphaSmart 3000, Neo, Dana or computer system.
Basic awareness of keyboard layout.

Target Audience
School aged students using keyboarding as an alternative to handwriting.
